Restaurant Review: Javi’s

I spent the morning after my annual fantasy football draft chasing the hair of the dog at Javi’s, an upscale Mexican restaurant at John Wayne International Airport in Orange County, Calif., with good drinks and an interesting menu.

Exhibit A was my huevos con chorizo. The small jalapenos provided just enough of a kick, while the gooey refried beans topped with cheese won me over in the texture department. Fresh from the oven, the homemade flour tortillas were as warm as the servers, who looked worried when I put my head down on the bar and quietly wept about the Tommyknockers pounding inside my head.

So if you happen to fly into or out of John Wayne, visit Javi’s for some pretty good Mexican chow. The margaritas aren’t bad, either.

About Chairman Mao

I like fomenting socialist revolutions and purging my homeland of pseudo-intellectualism and capitalist dogma. I also like sports, dogs and food (although I wouldn't consider myself a foodie).

is this related to the popular “Javier’s” in Newport Beach?

It is, Brad – the offspring of Javier’s in Newport Beach. For an airport bar/restaurant, not bad. I’ll have to check out the real deal in Newport on my next trip out.
