The other day during an otherwise beautiful morning at the range, a shooting coach was squatting near an orange cone that marked one of the yard lines from which to fire. He picked up the cone and started tapping it on the ground. He sped up the percussion beat and started slapping the ground with his other hand, alternately flipping the cup, slapping the ground, tapping the upside-down cup to the ground.
Someone said, “‘The Cup Song’ – you fuckin’ serious?”
He quickly replied, “‘Pitch Perfect’ was a good movie. Watched it the other day.” He paused. “Even thugs needs some ‘Pitch Perfect.'”
Ah yes, “The Cup Song,” also known as “When I’m Gone” by actress Anna Kendrick, the star of “Pitch Perfect,” a terrible movie about a misfit girl cappella troupe. (Don’t conflate this with “Two Girls One Cup,” which is something else entirely.)
Anyway, Truman isn’t going to subject you to “The Cup Song” … or Two Girls One Cup, for that matter. However, there are two other versions of “When I’m Gone” that he feels are worthy of consideration for this week’s Hump Day Song, so why choose?
First, here’s “When I’m Gone” by Eminem, another ode to his daughter Hailey…
… and here’s “When I’m Gone” by Three Doors Down.
