A Beautiful Tirade: Lasorda on Bevacqua

It’s mid-August and for the first time in a while, it still feels like a season worth playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw’s eight scoreless innings keyed Saturday night’s 5-0 victory over the Phillies – giving the Dodgers 10 straight wins. Wow, good times.

Naturally, thoughts turn to the best of times in Dodger history …  Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Scioscia, Lasorda … and Kurt Bevacqua, the source of one of the Chairman’s favorite sports tirades of all time. Click play on the clip above and enjoy.

It’s beautiful how calmly Tommy begins: “… I think it was very, very bad for that man to make an accusation like that…” before giving us a minute-long explosion that became immortalized by the late Los Angeles sports commentator Jim Healy in the ’80s and ’90s.

About Chairman Mao

I like fomenting socialist revolutions and purging my homeland of pseudo-intellectualism and capitalist dogma. I also like sports, dogs and food (although I wouldn't consider myself a foodie).
