Every morning on the way to work at the Quantico Marine Base, I walk past a massive U.S. flag flying at full staff. It flew at full staff Monday, hours after the fatal mortar explosion in Nevada that killed seven grunts and wounded seven more. It continued to fly like that – slowly, indifferently – after the apparent double murder-suicide that left three Marines dead down the street at Officer Candidate School. Tough week for the Corps.
As I walked underneath the billowing flag Friday morning, I wondered whether anyone felt it might be a good week to fly the colors at half-staff by presidential order. Just a thought.
